Dr. Amraoui at the 22nd Atrial Fibrillation Symposium in Prague

Dr. Amraoui had the honor of participating in the 22nd Atrial Fibrillation Symposium in Prague, representing the WAVEE group (Women in Ablation Visibility, Equity & Empowerment). The symposium provided an opportunity to discuss several key aspects of atrial fibrillation (AF), including:

• Atrial fibrillation is a progressive condition: Initially paroxysmal, AF can evolve into persistent and permanent forms over time.

• Increased risk associated with persistent and permanent AF: Presentations highlighted that persistent and permanent atrial fibrillation are associated with a higher risk of mortality, stroke, and heart failure compared with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.

• The importance of early ablation intervention: Evidence presented during the symposium showed that performing a minimally invasive ablation procedure early after an AF diagnosis can significantly reduce the risk of associated comorbidities.

  
  

As a result, early minimally invasive ablation treatment for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation is now recommended as a first-line therapy according to the 2024 European guidelines of the European Heart Rhythm Association.
